I’m a Mad Men fan. However, I have a great understanding that what Pete and Kenneth did in the 50’s/60’s as account people is vastly different that what I do in the 20 teens. Never have I taken anyone out to the movies/wined and dined/ or had a night out on the town with a client. Though, that would be a pretty nice gig.
Recently I read an article on Beyond Madison Avenue (from Talentzoo.com), on how the old job responsibilities of account services would be detrimental is carried out today. The new way of conducting business would be through facebook/twitter/text/ and email.
The only one of those options I use is email. And I mean only work email.
Before I have flirted with the idea of following clients on twitter, but it felt a bit like I was stalking. Perhaps that’s something that takes getting used to. The topic does have me thinking about the how the future of my career in account services. It could very well be that account execs will be expected to have their agency lives blend seamlessly into my personal ones…if they haven’t already.
